About

Essex Blind Charity has been caring for blind and visually impaired people since 1920. Read our history here. Times may have changed, but our aim remains to deliver a range of excellent support services to improve the lives of visually impaired people in Essex. The Charity is managed by a Board of Directors, some of whom are visually impaired, who meet monthly to provide strategic direction and ensure the charity meets its objectives.

Essex Sight is the name of our community service and operates from the borders with Suffolk in the north to the M25 in the south and out to the coast.  We have a permanent Sight Centre in Colchester and 5  pop up Sight Centres that operate in towns throughout the County.  Opening times vary from daily to weekly and monthly depending upon demand.

Each centre has a range of information and equipment to help with everyday living and many have lively social events, coffee clubs and activity days. We also provide confidential help, reading documents and filling out forms.

We also offer home visiting, finding practical solutions for people to help them to continue live independent lives.

Our Eye Clinic Liaison Officers work within Eye Departments and low vision clinics in Mid and North Essex Hospitals providing support to patients and their families.
